The Hawaii State Art Museum is located in Honolulu, Hawaii — very close to the Downtown area. It was super easy to get to, as our hotel was near Waikiki beach, we just hopped on the #2 Bus for $2.50 USD each person, each way. We actually stopped off in Chinatown first to explore and grab lunch and then slowly walked to the museum. Nearby, you can also visit Iolani Palace, State Capitol, Washington Place and other landmarks to name a few.
The museum itself has free admission [however, you can most definitely give a donation of any amount] and is open to the public. It’s not huge, but very beautiful, with a little cafe and a nice sculpture garden. Many local Hawaiian artists are exhibited here, both traditional and contemporary. If you enjoy art at all, this is a gem well worth an hour or two of your time.
You can schedule guided group tours [of up to 20 persons] upon request and in advance. There are also monthly events, such as : First Friday, Second Saturday or Art Lunch.
We photographed the majority of the lookbook in the HiSAM Sculpture Garden, which was once a recreational area that featured a large swimming pool and bleachers. This area has now been transformed to serve again as an urban oasis. It retains elements that evoke memories of the pool, offering pathways for discovery and sites for reflection. Here in the Sculpture Garden — the building, selected plantings, and works of art merge to form a multi-faceted environment that will delight all the senses.
